The IP PBX server normally consists of directory of all phones and their SIP addresses. Through this information, an internal call is connected or an external call through a VoIP service provider or a gateway. This whole process is very fast and easy.

The biggest advantage of PBX Telephone system is that it is very convenient to configure or install them. They are more convenient than a conventional phone system. These systems can easily be maintained by any user who has the basics knowledge of computers.

It is basically software and hence no wiring is required. The hardware phone can also be directly connected to the PBX system by just plugging it to a network port. Soft phones can be installed directly into a computer.

Another advantage of these systems is that they are very cost effective. Long distance calls are really cheap as IP networks are used. In case call is made between various branches of the same organization, they are completely cost free.

A user is able to use any SIP hardware or software phone by using a PSTN gateway. This is SIP based as it follows the open SIP standard.
